File Formatting
While layout and design are important to high-quality poster printing, proper file formatting is crucial. It doesn’t matter how good your poster looks on the screen if it comes out discolored, blurry, or missing information. Using a preformatted template can help, but it’s always recommended that you double-check some key format settings before you send in your file to print.
Color Spectrum
Computer screens and printers use different color spectrums to create images. The computer filters your colors through the RGB (red, green, blue) spectrum. But physical printers use CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) ink cartridges to create colors. If you send in a file formatted for RGB spectrums, you’ll end up with some wonky colors. Switching to CMYK and printing a test page will ensure you have the right vibrancy and hue.
Bleed Area
While printing and cutting machines are more reliable and effective than humans, there is still a small margin of error you need to consider. During the cutting process, shifting may occur, which will slightly alter the cut line on your poster. If you have design elements and text right up to the edge, you could lose important information. To avoid this, make sure you include a ¼” bleed area around your poster’s design to keep all crucial information safe.

DPI
DPI (dots per inch) tells computer screens and printers how pixilated your image should be. Computer screens can handle lower DPI without blurring the image too much. But if you try to print a low DPI file, the images would often appear unclear and fuzzy. Make sure to set your DPI to a minimum of 300 for a crisp and clear print. The higher the DPI, the better quality poster printing you can expect.

For our bulk poster printing, we use an industry-standard offset printer. This technique uses printing plates and rubber cylinders to quickly and accurately transfer (offset) your poster images to paper as it’s fed through.
