Matte or Glossy Poster?

At Guru Printers we offer two types of poster printing paper. Our paper options are either glossy or matte. A glossy poster is great for vivid color reproduction which can create eye catching imagery and tones. Our matte poster stock is better suited for images that are meant to be seen without glare and reflections. Both poster papers are printed on a high quality printer however each has its own unique feel and look.

Standard Poster Sizes:

16″ X 20″

This is a great poster size for low volume runs and it is a great way to showcase or promote an event, your photos or any type of visual or graphic art. Many stores and small companies use this size of poster to advertise specials, products or upcoming promotions. This is a great size to grab the attention of a potential client without overdoing it.

18″ X 24″ (MEDIUM SIZED POSTERS)

This is a perfect medium range poster size. This a very common poster size which is great for travel or transport. Many venues such as music halls & comedy rooms use this size to promote upcoming shows or performances. This size of poster can also be used for offices, lofts and or homes. Posters are a great large or small format medium for printing eye-catching and bold images to market your products, services, or creative ideas. When printing with Guru Printers simply upload your high-resolution files onto our web portal and you are more than halfway to you next great looking set of posters.

Here are some things to consider before going to print on your posters:

 

1:The purpose your posters will be serving greatly influences whether your posters will be large format or smaller in size. Large format posters are usually ideal for advertising given their standout appearance.  Smaller posters are great promotional marketing tools that are also cost effective, especially if you will be printing larger quantities.

2:Will your posters be displayed indoor or outdoor? This is an important question to ask yourself because it helps discern the material your poster will be printed on.  If your poster will be exposed to the elements outdoors then vinyl posters are the way to go given their durability and versatility (Note: vinyl posters are also referred to as vinyl sign/banner/decal.  For posters that will be likely displayed indoors then opt for paper, vinyl, or canvas.

3:The paper you choose can greatly affect the look and aesthetic of your poster. High gloss paper is usually recommended for photographs.  Matte and semi-gloss paper is recommended for posters that will be displayed indoors and that have more emphasis on their graphics/design rather than anything photographic.

4:The presentation options for your poster printing order also vary. At Guru Printers we also offer framing services should you decide your poster will be permanently fixed to a wall. Furthermore, we offer retractable stands or grommets for vinyl posters that can be propped up or hung in a temporary location and moved around for greater display flexibility.

Guru Printers produces all orders respective to when they are processed and batched on the production queue. Although, we try our best to produce all orders accordingly based on your geographical proximity to a production facility, we cannot make any guarantees that your item will be produced out of a specific location.

File Setup

In order to ensure your files are print-ready, we recommend that you upload them in PDF format. When you generate a print-ready PDF, your computer will use the settings in Adobe Acrobat Distiller or any other PDF generating programs you may use. Please make sure that these are set properly before generating your PDF file.

If you are uploading PDF files created in Photoshop, please be sure all layers are flattened.

We also accept .JPG (JPEG), and .TIF (TIFF) file types, however PDF is the preferred format.

Check your file to make sure it meets our file creation guidelines. This will help speed up the production of your project and give your printed piece the best results.

  1. Use the CMYK colorspace (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK). These are industry standard printing colors. CMYK colors are different than RGB (Red, Green, Blue), which are used to display colors on your screen.
  2. Use a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for image files.
  3. Specify trim area with crop marks. (Don’t place crop marks inside the work area.)
  4. Artwork should have 1/8″ (0.125″) bleed extending past the trim line. This is to prevent minor cutting variations from leaving unintended results at the trim edge.
  5. Safe Area is the 1/8″ (0.125″) area inside the trim line. Do not put critical information or images within the Safe Area. This is to prevent minor cutting variations from leaving unintended results at the trim edge.
  6. If you want printed borders, they must be placed a minimum of 1/8″ (0.125″) inside the trim line and include bleed. This is to prevent minor cutting variations from leaving unintended results at the trim edge.
