Tips for Photo Enlargement Without Compromising the Quality

Different people have different goals for enlarging a photo. Some people want to create wall art for their homes, while others print banners for fun events, birthday parties, weddings, engagements, and corporate events. However, enlarging a photo is not easy, especially if you want to do it yourself.

Photo enlargement is also beneficial when you work on a low-quality picture. Many people find working with smaller image sizes challenging because it does not serve the purpose. Photo enlarging becomes essential to achieve an ideal resolution and print the photo accordingly.

The most significant problem for people is their ability to prepare photographs for printing. According to Guru Printers, a reputable printing service with years of experience in the LA market, various factors, such as the color profile, ratios, file formats, etc., determine the quality of a photo enlarging and printing. Today’s article will give you tips to enlarge your image without compromising its quality.

Determine the Ideal Size

The print size depends on various factors, including the number of pixels. Bear in mind that each pixel in the photo size is synonymous with a single dot during the printing procedure.

So, the resolution of the picture depends on the number of dots per inch. In other words, it is the photo’s DPI that determines the quality of an enlarged image. There are three major categories for DPI quality: 100-150 dots per inch, 150-300 dots per inch, and 300 dots per inch.

Photos with 100-150 DPI are decent quality, while 150-300 DPI are above average. The best quality or professional grade photos are 300 DPI, streamlining the printing process and helping you achieve the desired results.

According to Guru Printers’ experts, the largest print sizes are between 30 x 40 and 4,500 x 6,000 DPI on average. A larger print size means lower dots per inch, meaning you can compromise the image quality. Therefore, it is crucial to determining the right size for your image. If you don’t understand how to get the job done, you can rely on Guru Printers to achieve your goals.

Re-Sampling is the Key

Re-sampling is a valuable technique for photos with good quality but poor resolution. It requires you to focus on the image’s composition, color management, and resolution. Guru Printers’ professional team says that small increments are directly proportional to the successful execution of photo resampling.

For instance, when you focus on the image and use the right software for resampling, you can get the job done adequately. Different software tools for photo resampling are Adobe Photoshop, Pixelmator, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and various online tools.

Avoid Low-Quality Picture Formats

Guru Printers’ professional photo experts say that JPEG formats are an inappropriate option for photo enlargement. The JPEG format extracts valuable information from the enlarged photo, making it challenging for you to maintain the resolution.

When you save the image file in the highest quality and lowest compression, you will lose critical information, such as the picture’s vibrant areas. Therefore, JPEGs are not suitable for photo enlargements. PNG, TIFF, SVG, and BMP are appropriate formats for photo enlargements.

Sharpen The Photo

Sharpening your image is another best strategy to achieve the desired size for the print. Adobe Photoshop and other photo editing tools offer numerous sharpening options to increase your image’s quality.

For instance, the unsharp mask is one of the best methods in Photoshop to optimize the photo’s quality and complete the sharpening process. Experts at Guru Printers recommend making a copy of your image and applying a blurry filter than the primary photo. Next, you will combine the original and blurry version to create a sharpened picture for the print.

Why Choose Guru Printers for Photo Enlargements?
